Dormé's family, the Jaffas, were the ruling house of the merchant town of Uriash. They retain their native language, Uriashian*, which is a dialect of Ancient Nabooan. Her mother, Illyn Jaffa, was disowned by her grandfather and cast out of the Jaffa house because of the failure of her marriage choice. Dormé's father, Edren Janren, who was born in a lower class, did not know how to manage so much money and gambled away their savings. Her parents drank and fought, though only verbally, not physically, abused each other. Dormé had no proper schooling, but was forced to work in a textiles factory at age six to supplement the lack of income. Eventually she began stashing away part of her payment so that she would have enough to run away. She spent nearly a month walking across the continent to Theed where she hoped she would find better work. She also desired to tell the Queen of Naboo about the illegal child labour going on in Uriash.
Once Dormé reached Theed, she spent weeks living on the streets, having already spent what money she had. Hunger took over and eventually she was too weak to steal food, finding herself at the entrance to the palace. One of the older guards found her and took her inside. Soon enough, fate intervened and she was chosen to be a handmaiden-in-training for the queen. She lied saying she was Dormé Jaffa, descendant of Duke Jaffa though she had no claims to the noble line.
For most of her life, people have always wanted something from her. She has never been able to count on or trust in anyone in her life. For this reason, it is hard for her to look to the future, make plans, or rely on another person. She protects herself from being hurt by refusing to let anyone in and not getting her hopes up about anything. She is ruthless in battle and used to run her mouth off until her mentor, Saché, drilled a proper lesson into her about behaviour and ettiquette.
Dormé is an amazing actress, able to convince people she is Amidala flawlessly. The only thing that would give her away is that her hands are not those belonging to a woman of high class. Her small hands bear the marks of years of work in the factories are hardened and calloused, so she must hide them with makeup or in the folds of her cloak when portraying the queen lest this detail make someone question her. She also has freckles which are hidden by makeup.

Canon
Dormé first appears in AotC. She accompanied Senator Amidala to her political meetings. When Senator Amidala was forced to flee Coruscant with Skywalker and R2-D2, Dormé remained behind along with Captain Typho in order to maintain the illusion that Padmé was still on the planet. Though fellow handmaidens Cordé and Versé perished during an attempt on the senator's life, Dormé was willing to put her duty before her own safety and act as a decoy for Amidala during the days that saw the beginning of the Clone Wars.
Three years into the Clone Wars, it is unclear whether or not Dormé served Amidala as a handmaiden because the handmaidens were not seen in RotS. Her fate remains unknown, though it is likely she attended Amidala's funeral on Naboo along with her fellow handmaidens.
Dormé is played by Rose Byrne.
